The 2025/26 Betway Premiership season was officially launched on Tuesday, 6 August 2025, at a vibrant ceremony held at The Galleria in Johannesburg. The event brought together football stakeholders from across the country to set the stage for the new campaign, which officially kicks off on 8 August.
This marks the second season under the Betway banner, following the brand’s inaugural sponsorship in the 2024/25 term. With the foundation now firmly established, this year’s launch focused on continuity, innovation, and raising the competitive bar for the country’s elite clubs.
All 16 top-flight clubs were represented, including newcomers Orbit College, Magesi FC, and Durban City, who will experience their first full season in the Premiership. The league continues to grow in diversity and reach, with matches set to span across key cities like Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Polokwane.
The launch also included a refreshed season overview, broadcast plans, and the full release of the opening weekend fixtures. Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns begin their campaign away to Chippa United, while Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are set to face Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC, respectively.
As excitement builds across the nation, clubs have been fine-tuning their squads and preparing for the intense competition ahead. Fans can expect fierce battles, rising talents, and drama that only South African football can deliver.
The PSL’s launch event reaffirmed the league’s commitment to professional excellence, enhanced fan experiences, and promoting the sport across all provinces. With the 2025/26 season officially underway, the countdown to kick-off has truly begun.
