No Ticket? No Problem: Where Pirates and Sundowns Supporters Can Experience the MTN8 Final in Durban

Betway Premiership

You may not have secured a ticket to the 2026 MTN8 Final, but that does not mean you have to miss the football spectacle in Durban this weekend.

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will meet at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 October, with the Premier Soccer League confirming that tickets for the final are officially sold out. However, supporters without tickets have an official alternative.

eThekwini Municipality has prepared a free Public Viewing Area at Bay of Plenty on the Durban beachfront, giving fans an opportunity to watch the final together in a family-friendly environment.

Bay of Plenty Public Viewing Area

Venue: Bay of Plenty Marine Parade, Durban Beachfront
Date: Saturday, 10 October 2026
Entry: Free
Gates open: 12:00
Kick-off: 18:00
Site closure: 22:00
Capacity: Up to 5,000 spectators

The public viewing area will feature live entertainment, with DJs and performers scheduled throughout the day. The programme includes DJ Happygal, DJ Cyndo, DJ Q, Feza, Jumbo, Cebza and Ntencane, giving supporters plenty of reason to arrive before kick-off.

For Pirates supporters, Sundowns fans and neutral football lovers, Bay of Plenty could provide a major final atmosphere without entering Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Important: Bay of Plenty is not the stadium

Supporters should not confuse the public viewing area with Moses Mabhida Stadium. Bay of Plenty is a separate event and does not provide access to the stadium.

The PSL has confirmed that there will be no ticket sales at the stadium, while screenshots and printed tickets will not be accepted for entry. Supporters have also been warned against purchasing tickets from unauthorised sellers.

If you do not have a legitimate stadium ticket, do not take unnecessary risks. The official public viewing area provides a safer alternative.

Arrive early and plan ahead

With the Bay of Plenty gates opening at 12:00 and capacity limited to approximately 5,000 spectators, fans are encouraged to arrive early. This will give supporters a better opportunity to enter the viewing area, find a suitable position and enjoy the entertainment before the 18:00 kick-off.

Large crowds are expected, so supporters should follow instructions from event officials and security personnel throughout the day.

What supporters can expect

Fans attending the viewing area should prepare for a busy football environment featuring large crowds, club colours, chants, entertainment, queues, security personnel and a large-screen match experience.

Pirates supporters can bring their black and white, while Sundowns fans will proudly wear yellow and blue. Rivalry should add to the atmosphere rather than create conflict. Support your team, celebrate responsibly and respect fellow supporters.

Families attending with children should keep them close and establish a meeting point in case anyone becomes separated. Supporters should also keep valuables secure and avoid carrying unnecessary items.

Other places to watch the final

Supporters who cannot attend Bay of Plenty can consider a legitimate sports venue, restaurant, hotel or licensed entertainment establishment advertising a live screening. However, check directly with the venue before travelling, as some locations may require reservations, charge an entrance fee or have specific age restrictions.

Confirm whether the match will be shown live, whether bookings are required, the opening time, entrance costs, parking arrangements and available transport options. Do not assume that a venue will screen the final simply because it normally shows football.

Hotels, guesthouses and lodges may also have restaurants, lounges or viewing areas. Travellers staying in Durban should check with their accommodation in advance.

Watching from home

For supporters outside Durban, watching from home may be the easiest and safest option. The final will be broadcast live on SABC1 and SuperSport PSL, Channel 202.

A home viewing party can still create a memorable matchday experience. Get the jerseys ready, prepare some food, invite fellow supporters and make sure your television and broadcast subscription are working before kick-off.

Safety should come first

Whether you are attending Bay of Plenty, a sports venue or watching elsewhere in Durban, plan your journey carefully. Follow instructions from security personnel, avoid confrontations, do not provoke rival supporters, do not throw objects and respect public property.

Supporters using public transport or relying on lifts should also remember that the final could last longer than 90 minutes. If the teams are level after regulation time, extra time may follow, with penalties potentially required to determine the winner. Build flexibility into your return journey rather than arranging transport too tightly around the scheduled finish.

A simple plan for ticketless supporters

Morning: Plan your route and prepare for the day.
Before 12:00: Make your way towards the Durban beachfront.
12:00: Bay of Plenty viewing area opens.
Afternoon: Enjoy the entertainment and build-up.
18:00: Orlando Pirates vs Mamelodi Sundowns kicks off.
After the match: Follow security and transport instructions.
22:00: Public viewing site closes.

Pirates and Sundowns supporters have plenty to play for

For Pirates supporters, the final represents another opportunity to celebrate the club’s remarkable MTN8 record and potentially witness a fifth consecutive title.

Sundowns, meanwhile, will be determined to stop their rivals’ dominance. The Brazilians last won the MTN8 in 2021 and will be looking to bring the trophy back to Chloorkop.

Whether supporters are at Bay of Plenty, inside a legitimate sports venue or watching from home, the stakes remain the same. One goal, one save or one penalty could decide the trophy.

No ticket does not mean no atmosphere

Moses Mabhida Stadium may be sold out, but the football fever will extend far beyond the stadium gates. The Bay of Plenty Public Viewing Area offers supporters a free, official way to experience the final together, while legitimate venues and the official broadcast provide additional options.

If you missed out on a ticket, find a safe and legitimate viewing option, arrive early, respect fellow supporters and enjoy the occasion.

ONE STADIUM. TWO GIANTS. ONE TROPHY. 90 MINUTES TO GLORY.

The tickets may be sold out. The football fever certainly isn’t.
