Orbit College have taken a massive step towards promotion to the Betway Premiership after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Casric Stars at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The decisive goal came in the 80th minute from Siyabulela Mabele, whose sensational long-range strike left Casric goalkeeper Lako Wendeu with no chance and sent Orbit fans into celebration.
It was a cagey affair for much of the game, with both sides creating limited clear-cut opportunities. Casric Stars came close in the second half, particularly when Decide Chauke saw his effort miss the target in the 65th minute. Former Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus was brought on late to try and turn things around, but Orbit’s defence held firm to preserve the clean sheet.
This win sees Orbit College climb to the top of the PSL Promotion Playoff standings with 5 points from three matches. Casric Stars and Cape Town City are tied with two points each, having drawn their previous encounters.
With two matches left in the mini-league playoff format, Orbit College now find themselves in pole position for a historic promotion. They next face Cape Town City in Rustenburg on Wednesday, where another win could seal their place in South Africa’s top flight.
Casric Stars, meanwhile, will hope to bounce back when they host Cape Town City next Saturday in what could be a decisive fixture.
