Barcelona, 20 June 2025 – FC Barcelona have officially unveiled new goalkeeper Joan García following his high-profile move from city rivals Espanyol. The 24-year-old shot-stopper signed a six-year contract that will keep him at the Catalan giants until June 2031.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the iconic Spotify Camp Nou, where García was welcomed by club president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and technical advisor Bojan Krkić. Head coach Hansi Flick, who personally endorsed the signing, also attended the private event.
García joins Barça after the club triggered his €25 million release clause, securing his services following a stellar 2024/25 season with Espanyol in which he led La Liga in total saves and played every minute of the campaign.
In his first words as a Barcelona player, García expressed his excitement:
“This is a very exciting project. I’m proud to join such a historic club and I can’t wait to give my all for the badge.”
He described himself as “brave, with quick reflexes and strong in the air,” qualities that will strengthen Barcelona’s depth in goal alongside Marc-André ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczęsny, and Iñaki Peña.
The signing of Joan García marks a continued shift under Hansi Flick’s leadership, with the club emphasizing young, homegrown talent as part of their long-term vision.
