Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed the loan move of winger Monnapule Saleng to newly-promoted Orbit College FC ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
In a surprising yet strategic move, the Buccaneers announced on Tuesday that Saleng will spend the entire upcoming campaign with Orbit College, a club that has just secured top-flight football for the first time in its history. The 27-year-old returns to familiar surroundings, having previously represented Orbit during his early playing days before rising through the ranks at Free State Stars and eventually landing at Mayfair.
A Fresh Start for Saleng
Saleng’s move comes on the back of a difficult 2024/25 season where he struggled for consistency and playing time. The club stated that the loan is aimed at helping the speedy winger “rediscover the form that made him one of the best players in the country” – a nod to his breakout 2022/23 campaign that saw him become a household name in South African football.
Orlando Pirates’ Statement
“Orlando Pirates can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Orbit College FC for the loan of Monnapule Saleng,” read part of the official statement. “The 27-year-old will spend the 2025/26 season with the newly crowned outfit.”
This decision forms part of a broader squad reshuffle as Pirates prepare for the new season with several incoming and outgoing transfers expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Orbit College Gearing Up for Debut Season
For Orbit College, acquiring a player of Saleng’s calibre is a major statement as they look to make an impact in their maiden Betway Premiership campaign. His experience, pace, and attacking flair will undoubtedly boost their offensive options and provide much-needed leadership in a young squad.
Saleng is expected to link up with his new teammates in the coming days as Orbit begin pre-season preparations.
