In a moving show of unity and support, Banyana Banyana players and staff visited their teammate Gabriela Salgado in hospital following her horrific injury during the 2025 WAFCON semifinal clash against Nigeria.

Salgado was stretchered off late in the second half after suffering a serious fracture to her left leg in a heavy challenge. She was immediately taken to Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca, where she underwent successful surgery to repair the injury.

On Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday, members of the South African national team arrived at the hospital, surrounding Salgado with care, laughter, and heartfelt encouragement. The atmosphere was emotional yet hopeful, with many players visibly moved as they shared moments with their recovering teammate.

“She’s one of us, and we had to be here,” said one of the senior players. “We’ve been through a lot together as a team, and seeing her smile today reminded us why we fight for each other.”

Team medical staff confirmed that while Salgado will be sidelined for an extended period, her spirits remain high thanks to the overwhelming support she’s received from both teammates and fans.

In a heartwarming gesture, players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons also visited Salgado to wish her well, further showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship beyond rivalry.

Salgado’s recovery journey has begun, and although it will be long, the love around her is undeniable.

From all of us at Our Soccer Updates, we wish Gabriela a strong, smooth, and speedy recovery. You’ve already made us proud—now take your time to heal. 💚💛⚽
