Wydad Casablanca Crash Out as Juventus Triumph 4–1

Club World Cup

Philadelphia – June 22, 2025

Wydad Casablanca have officially been eliminated from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a crushing 4–1 defeat to Italian giants Juventus in a Group G showdown on Saturday night.

Juventus wasted no time asserting dominance, taking an early lead through an unfortunate own goal by Wydad’s Abdelmounaim Boutouil in the 6th minute. Rising star Kenan Yildiz added two brilliant goals in the 16th and 69th minutes, with Dusan Vlahović sealing the result with a late penalty in stoppage time.

While Wydad were outclassed on the night, one moment gave supporters reason to celebrate. Thembinkosi Lorch, the South African winger, scored a superb goal in the 25th minute with a composed lob over the Juventus keeper. The goal was a rare highlight in an otherwise difficult evening, and it marked Lorch’s place in history as one of the few South Africans to score in a Club World Cup match.

Despite Wydad’s early exit from the tournament following back-to-back losses, Lorch’s performance was widely praised, with fans across Africa expressing pride in his determination and skill.

“He gave everything on the pitch. His goal showed real class. We’re proud of Lorch,” a fan commented on social media.
