Manchester City delivered a dominant performance to secure a 5-2 victory over Juventus in their final Group G match at the Club World Cup, booking their place in the Round of 16 with a flawless record.
Manchester City took control early on at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Belgian winger Jeremy Doku opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a calm finish after clever build-up play from Rayan Aït-Nouri. Juventus hit back almost instantly, capitalizing on a rare error from Ederson as Teun Koopmeiners slotted home the equalizer just two minutes later.
City regained the lead in the 26th minute when a low cross from Matheus Nunes forced an own goal from Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, giving Pep Guardiola’s side a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Star striker Erling Haaland, introduced at halftime, made an immediate impact by scoring his 300th senior career goal in the 52nd minute. The Norwegian forward then turned provider, setting up Phil Foden for a tap-in to make it 4-1 in the 69th minute. Substitute Savinho added to the Italian side’s misery with a powerful strike that crashed in off the crossbar in the 75th.
Juventus managed a late consolation through Dusan Vlahović in the 84th minute, but it did little to dampen City’s commanding performance.
Rodri’s return to the starting lineup added stability to City’s midfield after a lengthy injury layoff, and the team’s attacking fluidity overwhelmed their Serie A opponents.
With this win, Manchester City finish Group G on top with nine points from three matches and a goal difference of +11. Juventus also progress to the knockout stage, finishing second in the group.
City will now await their next opponent in the Round of 16, where they’ll face the runner-up of Group H.
