🏅 Super Falcons Dominate WAFCON 2024 Awards as Ajibade, Nnadozie Shine Bright

WAFCON

Following an unforgettable tournament in Morocco, the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) concluded with Nigeria not only lifting their 10th continental title, but also sweeping several top individual awards in recognition of their brilliant campaign.

🌟 Rasheedat Ajibade Named Best Player

Nigeria’s dynamic forward Rasheedat Ajibade was crowned the Player of the Tournament, after inspiring performances from the group stage through to the final. Ajibade played a crucial role in orchestrating attacks, creating chances, and leading with composure under pressure.

Her vision, pace, and technical ability were instrumental in Nigeria’s comeback against Morocco in the final. The Atletico Madrid winger was a consistent threat on the flanks and proved vital in tight moments throughout the campaign.

🧤 Nnadozie Takes Best Goalkeeper Honour

Between the posts, Chiamaka Nnadozie stood tall — quite literally and figuratively. The Paris FC shot-stopper was awarded Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament after keeping multiple clean sheets and making several key saves in the knockout rounds.

Nnadozie’s calm presence and sharp reflexes were central to Nigeria’s defensive strength, and her command of the box gave confidence to the backline in every match.

⚽ Chebbak Clinches Golden Boot for Morocco

Despite falling short in the final, Ghizlane Chebbak ensured Morocco would not leave empty-handed. The 2022 joint top scorer repeated her feat in 2024, finishing as the tournament’s Golden Boot winner with five goals.

The Moroccan captain was a standout performer yet again, leading by example with her attacking flair and scoring crucial goals during the group and knockout stages.

👏 Coach & Fair Play Recognitions

Nigeria’s Justin Madugu was rightfully named Coach of the Tournament, having guided the Super Falcons to a historic 10th title. His tactical adjustments, player rotation, and calm leadership helped the team overturn a 2–0 deficit in the final — completing one of the most memorable comebacks in WAFCON history.

Meanwhile, South Africa received the Fair Play Award, honouring their professionalism, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
