In stoppage time of the first half, Vinícius turned provider, delivering a clever backheel pass into the path of Federico Valverde, who smashed home Madrid’s second goal to give them a comfortable cushion at the break.
RB Salzburg struggled to break down Madrid’s structured midfield and three-man defence, a tactical shift introduced by head coach Xabi Alonso. With the Spaniard’s side firmly in control, youngster Gonzalo García added the third goal in the 84th minute, calmly lifting the ball over the Salzburg goalkeeper after being played through on goal.
