Leicester City Football Club has officially announced the departure of head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, marking the end of a turbulent chapter for the former Premier League champions. The decision, made by mutual consent, comes in the wake of a disappointing campaign that saw the Foxes suffer relegation from the top flight.
Van Nistelrooy, who joined the club in November 2024, was brought in with the aim of stabilizing Leicester’s season after a shaky start. However, results on the pitch failed to improve significantly, with the team enduring one of the club’s most challenging runs in recent history, including a record-breaking streak of home matches without a goal.
In an official statement, Leicester City thanked van Nistelrooy for his “dedication, leadership and professionalism” during his tenure. The club also acknowledged the effort he put into integrating academy players and attempting to rebuild team morale amidst mounting pressure.
With the new season fast approaching, the club confirmed that interim coaching responsibilities will be handled by members of the current technical staff while the search for a new permanent manager is underway. Former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche, as well as Michael Carrick and Danny Röhl, are among the names being linked to the post.
Van Nistelrooy expressed his appreciation to the club, its supporters, and the players, stating: “It was an honour to manage this historic club. Though the results were not what we hoped for, I am grateful for the opportunity and wish Leicester all the success in their next chapter.”
Leicester City now turns its focus to rebuilding and returning stronger in the EFL Championship.
