Orlando Pirates continued their impressive start to the Betway Premiership campaign with a composed 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Buccaneers produced a disciplined display at both ends of the pitch, with goals from Kabelo Kgositsile and Nkosinathi Sibisi securing all three points and extending their unbeaten run.
Kgositsile Breaks the Deadlock
Orlando Pirates began the encounter with purpose, taking control of possession and putting the Marumo Gallants defence under pressure during the opening stages.
Tshepang Moremi provided a constant threat from the flanks, using his pace and movement to stretch the home side’s defensive shape.
The pressure eventually paid off in the 32nd minute when Kabelo Kgositsile opened the scoring.
The Pirates attacker found space inside the penalty area following a well-worked attacking move before producing a composed finish beyond Marumo Gallants goalkeeper Emile Lako.
The goal was Kgositsile’s first league strike of the campaign and gave the Buccaneers a deserved 1-0 lead at the break.
Sibisi Doubles the Advantage
Marumo Gallants looked to respond after the restart, pushing forward in search of an equaliser.
However, Orlando Pirates remained organised defensively, with goalkeeper Sipho Chaine and the backline dealing effectively with the home side’s attempts to create clear-cut opportunities.
Pirates eventually doubled their advantage in the 74th minute.
Central defender Nkosinathi Sibisi rose highest from a set-piece situation and directed a powerful header into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
The second goal gave Pirates greater control of the contest and left Gallants with a difficult task of finding a way back into the match.
The Buccaneers managed the closing stages professionally, protecting their clean sheet and seeing out the game to secure another valuable away victory.
Pirates Maintain Momentum
The result underlines Orlando Pirates’ consistency in the early stages of the Betway Premiership season.
Their combination of defensive organisation, attacking efficiency and composure in key moments proved decisive against Marumo Gallants.
For Gallants, the defeat leaves them with work to do as they look to find greater consistency in the league.
