The newly refurbished Oscar Mpetha Stadium at the University of Limpopo in Turfloop came alive over the weekend as the Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified festival brought top-flight women’s football to Limpopo on 19 and 20 September 2026.
The two-day festival delivered a mixture of intense provincial rivalries, dominant performances and closely contested encounters across the Super Era and Super Rise streams.
Before kick-off in the various fixtures, players, technical teams and match officials observed a moment of silence in solidarity with the fight against gender-based violence and femicide.
Once the action began, however, the focus shifted firmly to the football, with several teams producing performances that could have a major impact on their respective campaigns.
Sundowns Maintain Perfect Record
Reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their impressive start to the season with another commanding performance, defeating University of Pretoria (Tuks) 3–0 in the Tshwane Derby on Sunday.
The victory extended Sundowns’ winning streak to eight consecutive matches, keeping their perfect record intact in the Super Era stream.
The champions have also been exceptional in front of goal and defensively, scoring 26 goals without conceding a single goal after eight matches.
Their latest victory further underlined why they remain one of the standout sides in the competition as they continue their pursuit of another league title.
UWC Continue to Impress
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) also enjoyed a memorable weekend, defeating Stellenbosch FC Ladies 3–0 in the Western Cape Derby on Saturday.
It was another convincing display from UWC, who recorded their fifth consecutive clean sheet and their third successive 3–0 victory.
The result strengthened their position in second place in the Super Era standings, while Stellenbosch continue to search for their first points of the campaign.
Other Super Era Results
- TS Galaxy Queens 1–0 Copperbelt Ladies: Gontse Homba’s 17th-minute volley proved decisive as Galaxy returned to winning ways and ended Copperbelt’s positive run.
- Diepkloof Ladies 0–0 Richmond United: Neither side could find a breakthrough in a tightly contested encounter, resulting in the only goalless draw of the weekend.
JVW Strengthen Their Position at the Top
In the Super Rise stream, JVW FC continued to set the pace after recording a convincing 3–0 victory over City Lads Ladies.
The result saw JVW maintain their position at the summit with a five-point advantage, further strengthening their challenge for honours.
The weekend also produced an entertaining Varsity Derby between the University of Fort Hare (UFH) and University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies.
Fort Hare claimed a valuable 2–1 victory, with Kesha Hendricks and captain Amanda November finding the back of the net.
The win moved Fort Hare above UJ into second place on the Super Rise standings.

Limpopo Provides a Fitting Stage for Women’s Football
The Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified festival provided an important platform for women’s football in Limpopo, with the University of Limpopo campus attracting football supporters for a weekend of competitive action.
Beyond the results, the festival also highlighted the continued growth of women’s football and the importance of bringing elite-level matches closer to local communities.
With the festival now moving towards its next stop in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, the battle for position is beginning to intensify across both streams.
For Sundowns, UWC and JVW, the challenge will be to maintain their momentum as the season progresses, while teams at the other end of the standings will be looking for crucial points to turn their campaigns around.
The Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified caravan moves on, but the weekend in Turfloop leaves plenty of talking points for women’s football supporters across Limpopo and beyond.
