AMAKHOSI STRIKE LATE: Morris and Vilakazi Fire Kaizer Chiefs to Crucial Win in Polokwane

POLOKWANE, SOUTH AFRICA – Kaizer Chiefs delivered a composed and professional late performance to defeat Sekhukhune United 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday evening, strengthening their hold on third place in the Betway Premiership standings.

With just two matches remaining in the season, Amakhosi moved to 51 points after a hard-fought encounter that was decided by the impact of the substitutes and a strong finish in the closing stages.

Tactical Contest in the First Half

The match began cautiously, with both teams showing defensive discipline in a tightly balanced opening period. Kaizer Chiefs gradually settled into their rhythm after the first 10 minutes, with Gaston Sirino pulling the strings in midfield and creating several dangerous moments.

Sirino nearly opened the scoring in the 38th minute when he unleashed a powerful effort that forced Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata into an excellent save.

Babina Noko also threatened at times, with Olerato Mandi testing Brandon Petersen, but both sides went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0 after an intense tactical battle.

Chiefs Finish Strong

The second half brought more urgency from both teams as the match opened up. Chiefs continued to push forward and nearly found the breakthrough early in the half, but Sirino failed to convert from close range.

With the game appearing destined for a draw, Kaizer Chiefs’ technical team turned to the bench and the changes proved decisive.

In the 86th minute, substitute Tashreeq Morris finally broke the deadlock after connecting with a low cross from the lively Glody Lilepo, calmly finishing from close range to send the travelling Amakhosi supporters into celebration.

Chiefs sealed the victory deep into stoppage time when Glody Lilepo won a penalty after a dangerous run into the box. Youngster Mfundo Vilakazi stepped up with confidence and calmly converted to make it 2-0 in the 90+1st minute.

Important Three Points for Amakhosi

The victory gives Kaizer Chiefs valuable momentum heading into the final stretch of the season and further strengthens their position among the league’s top sides.

Sekhukhune United remain in fifth place and will continue their push for a strong finish in the Betway Premiership campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their attention to upcoming fixtures against AmaZulu and Chippa United as they aim to close the season on a positive note.
