Thabo Cele has wasted no time getting down to business at Mamelodi Sundowns after completing his high-profile move to the Tshwane giants.
The experienced midfielder was spotted in training at the club’s high-performance centre in Chloorkop on September 11, putting in the hard yards alongside his new teammates.
Fresh from being officially unveiled as a Sundowns player, the 29-year-old looked focused and determined as he began life at his new club, signalling his eagerness to make an immediate impression.
Cele Hits the Ground Running
Cele’s arrival at Chloorkop comes after his departure from Kaizer Chiefs and a period as a free agent, leading to questions about his readiness for the demands of competitive football.
Those concerns will be closely monitored as he settles into his new surroundings, but his first training session showed a player keen to get back into the rhythm of daily football.
Cele took part in the session alongside the Sundowns squad, getting an early taste of the intensity and tactical demands associated with the reigning African champions.
A Strong Start to Life at Sundowns
- High Intensity: Cele was involved in the demanding training programme alongside his new teammates.
- Immediate Integration: The midfielder has begun adapting to Sundowns’ possession-based approach and tactical structure.
- Experience Added: His arrival brings further experience and depth to a squad competing on multiple fronts.
- Continental Experience: Cele’s international and European football background could prove valuable during Sundowns’ domestic and continental campaigns.
A Fresh Chapter at Chloorkop
For Cele, the move to Sundowns represents an opportunity to begin a new chapter at one of Africa’s most ambitious clubs.
The midfielder has built a career that includes spells in Europe, experience with Bafana Bafana and an Olympic appearance, giving him a wealth of experience to draw upon as he takes on his latest challenge.
Now, the focus shifts to how quickly he can adapt to the demands of his new team and compete for a place in Miguel Cardoso’s midfield.
Sundowns have considerable competition for places in the middle of the park, but Cele’s technical quality, experience and ability to operate under pressure could give the coaching staff another valuable option as the season progresses.
Sundowns Fans Await His Debut
The hard work has now begun, with Cele taking his first steps towards establishing himself in the famous yellow and blue.
While training performances are only the beginning, his willingness to immediately embrace the intensity at Chloorkop will be encouraging for the Sundowns faithful.
The big question now is when supporters will get their first opportunity to see Cele in competitive action and whether he can quickly become an important part of the Masandawana midfield.
