Richards Bay FC have moved quickly to strengthen their technical department, confirming the appointment of experienced Bulgarian coach Dimitar Nikolaev Pantev as the club’s new head coach.
The appointment was announced by the KwaZulu-Natal outfit on Monday, 21 September 2026, as the Natal Rich Boyz look to build momentum in their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
Pantev, a UEFA A License holder, has signed a one-year contract with an option to extend, bringing extensive experience from across African football to Richards Bay.
Pantev Brings Continental Experience
The 50-year-old tactician arrives with a coaching résumé that includes work in several of Africa’s competitive football environments, as well as experience in CAF inter-club competitions.
His recent coaching record includes several notable achievements:
- Simba SC, Tanzania: Helped the club secure qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage in 2025.
- Orapa United, Botswana: Guided the club to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage in 2024.
- Jwaneng Galaxy, Botswana: Led the club to National Cup success during the 2025/26 season.
- Gaborone United, Botswana: Won the Botswana Premier League title during the 2024/25 campaign.
That experience across both domestic and continental football gives Pantev an understanding of the demands that come with competing at a high level.
Task Ahead in the Betway Premiership
Pantev takes charge at a significant point in Richards Bay’s season, with the club aiming to improve its position in the Betway Premiership and establish greater consistency on the pitch.
His immediate task will be to assess the squad, implement his tactical ideas and prepare the team for the challenges ahead.
Particular attention is expected to be placed on improving defensive organisation, strengthening the team’s overall structure and finding greater efficiency in attack.
For a side competing in a demanding domestic campaign, Pantev’s experience in high-pressure environments could prove valuable as he begins working with the squad.
A New Chapter for the Natal Rich Boyz
The appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for Richards Bay FC, with supporters now waiting to see how quickly the team adapts to Pantev’s methods.
With the season continuing at a demanding pace, the Bulgarian coach will have limited time to settle into his new role before his influence is tested in competitive action.
The focus now shifts to the training ground, where Pantev will begin shaping the team according to his footballing philosophy and preparing the Natal Rich Boyz for their upcoming Betway Premiership fixtures.
Richards Bay will be hoping that the new appointment provides the tactical stability and consistency required to push the team forward during the remainder of the campaign.
