Magesi Football Club has officially announced the departure of head coach Owen Da Gama, ending a six-month tenure marked by notable highs and steady leadership.
Da Gama, affectionately known in football circles as “ODG,” took charge of Dikwena Tša Meetse on 30 December 2024 and managed the team through 19 matches in the Betway Premiership. Under his guidance, the Limpopo-based side secured seven wins, five draws, and seven losses—results that ultimately saw the club finish the 2024/25 season in 13th place, successfully avoiding relegation.
His impact was particularly felt during the month of March, when his tactical discipline and motivation earned him the prestigious Betway Premiership Coach of the Month award.
The club expressed its gratitude for Da Gama’s contributions, stating:
“Magesi FC would like to thank Mr. Da Gama for his work with the team and to wish him well in his future endeavours.”
While the reasons behind the departure were not disclosed, the club has confirmed that structural updates and possible replacements will be communicated in due course as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Da Gama, a seasoned figure in South African football with experience at clubs such as Highlands Park and Orlando Pirates, leaves behind a solid foundation for Magesi to build upon in the next campaign. Fans will be eager to see the next chapter unfold for both the coach and the club.
