MTN8 Final Sold Out: Pirates and Sundowns Set for Packed Moses Mabhida

Betway Premiership

The 2026 MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns is officially sold out, with the Premier Soccer League confirming that all available tickets for the highly anticipated showdown have been snapped up.

The announcement comes just hours after ticket sales opened on Friday morning, 2 October, with supporters rushing to secure their seats for the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, 10 October 2026, with kick-off at 18:00.

Huge demand for Pirates vs Sundowns

The sell-out highlights the enormous interest surrounding a final that brings together two of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.

Orlando Pirates will face Mamelodi Sundowns in what promises to be a major occasion at Moses Mabhida Stadium, with supporters from both camps expected to make their way to Durban for the showpiece.

The PSL had priced general-access tickets at R150, with supporters limited to a maximum of four tickets per transaction. Tickets were made available exclusively through the Open Tickets online platform.

Ticket sales hit major technical problems

The sell-out follows a difficult start to the ticketing process.

When sales opened at 10:00 on Friday, the Open Tickets platform experienced significant technical difficulties as large numbers of supporters attempted to access the website at the same time.

Fans reported long online queues, server errors and difficulties completing their purchases.

Open Tickets subsequently explained that an automated queue had been activated because of exceptionally high demand. Supporters were advised to remain in the queue and avoid refreshing or closing the page, as doing so could result in losing their position.

Despite the early problems, the ticketing platform later became operational again, allowing supporters to continue purchasing tickets.

Demand ultimately overwhelms availability

The speed at which the available tickets were taken demonstrates the level of anticipation surrounding the Pirates and Sundowns encounter.

The PSL had prepared supporters for heavy online traffic by introducing a queuing system and limiting purchases to four tickets per person. Every spectator, including children, is required to have a valid ticket to enter the stadium.

With tickets now officially sold out, supporters who were unable to secure tickets should be cautious about purchasing from unofficial sources.

The PSL had previously urged members of the public to use only the official Open Tickets platform and warned against unauthorised third-party ticket sellers.

Moses Mabhida Stadium set for a packed final

Moses Mabhida Stadium will now prepare to welcome a full house when Pirates and Sundowns meet on 10 October.

The Durban venue was confirmed by the PSL as the host of the final earlier this week. The stadium is hosting the MTN8 decider again after previously staging numerous editions of the competition’s final.

The sell-out adds another layer of anticipation to a fixture that already had significant attention before tickets went on sale.

For the supporters who successfully secured tickets, the focus now shifts from the ticket queue to the football itself.

Pirates and Sundowns ready for the big occasion

With the stands expected to be packed, both teams will know that the MTN8 final provides an opportunity to start the new domestic campaign with silverware.

The two clubs have developed one of the biggest rivalries in South African football, and their meeting in a cup final guarantees another high-profile chapter between the sides.

For thousands of supporters, the long wait for tickets may have been frustrating, but those who managed to complete their purchases will now be counting down to match day.

The tickets are gone. The stage is set. On 10 October, all eyes will be on Moses Mabhida Stadium.
