Mamelodi Sundowns Thrash Remo Stars 5-1 in CAF Champions League Clash

International Football

Mamelodi Sundowns produced a dominant display in Nigeria as they crushed Remo Stars 5-1 in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie on Sunday afternoon.

Playing at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, the South African champions delivered a performance full of class, composure, and confidence taking a major step toward securing a place in the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition.

The Brazilians got off to a flying start, breaking the deadlock early through Tashreeq Matthews before Peter Shalulile doubled the advantage just before half-time. Sundowns continued to control proceedings after the break, with Miguel Reisinho, Arthur Sales, and Tsiki Ntsabeleng all getting on the scoresheet to complete a ruthless attacking display.

Remo Stars managed a consolation goal through Samson Olasupo, but it did little to change the complexion of a game thoroughly dominated by the visitors. Sundowns’ technical quality and experience were evident throughout, as they dictated the tempo and punished every defensive lapse from the Nigerian champions.

This emphatic victory leaves the Tshwane giants in a commanding position ahead of the return leg in South Africa, where they will look to complete the job and book their ticket to the group stages.

The result once again reinforces Mamelodi Sundowns’ status as one of the continent’s most consistent and powerful sides a team capable of producing world-class football anywhere in Africa.
