Makhubu’s Header Salvages a Point for Stellies as TS Galaxy Halt Their Slump

Betway Premiership

STELLENBOSCH – A determined second-half revival helped Stellenbosch FC secure a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy in a tense Betway Premiership clash at Danie Craven Stadium on Friday night. The result extends the Maroons’ unbeaten league run to six matches, while TS Galaxy, who had endured a five-match losing streak, earned a crucial point on the road to halt their slump.

Rockets Take Flight Early, Stellies Shell-Shocked

TS Galaxy could not have asked for a better start. Just 45 seconds into the match, Junior Zindoga stunned the home crowd with a well-taken goal. A sharp cross-shot from Victor Letsoalo forced a fingertip save from Sage Stephens, but the rebound fell kindly to Zindoga, who fired home to give the visitors a quick 1-0 lead. Stellenbosch struggled to find their rhythm early in the game, failing to break down a disciplined Galaxy defense. They were fortunate to go into the break just one goal behind after Mpho Mvelase rounded Stephens, but Mosa Lebusa produced a crucial goal-line clearance to keep the Maroons in the game.

Gavin Hunt’s Tactical Shifts Ignite Stellies’ Comeback

Determined to respond, Stellenbosch coach Gavin Hunt made key substitutions at halftime, bringing on Thabo Moloisane and Orlando Pirates loanee Tshegofatso Mabasa. The change injected fresh energy into the attack, and the pressure paid off in the 57th minute. Devin Titus floated in a precise curling cross from the right, finding Wonderboy Makhubu, who powered a header past Ira Tape to level the score at 1-1.

Late Drama at Both Ends

As the match entered its final 20 minutes, both teams pushed for a winner in an open, fast-paced contest:

In the 70th minute, Seluleko Mahlambi delivered a superb cross to Mvelase, but the Galaxy midfielder’s header sailed just over the bar.

Then, in the 90th minute, Zindoga had a golden chance to steal all three points for Galaxy. He attempted to lob an out-of-position Stephens, but the ball clipped the top of the net, leaving the match to end in a draw.

League Standings Update

The draw leaves both teams in mid-table as the 2025/26 season nears its conclusion:

  • TS Galaxy – 21 matches, +1 goal difference, 25 points, 8th position
  • Stellenbosch FC – 20 matches, -5 goal difference, 24 points, 9th position
