Orlando Pirates have officially announced the appointment of Abdeslam Ouaddou as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Moroccan tactician steps in following the departure of Jose Riveiro, who has taken up a new role at Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The Buccaneers confirmed the news on Monday morning, June 23, through a statement on their official website and various social media platforms.
Ouaddou, a former Moroccan international defender with 68 caps, brings a wealth of experience to the Soweto giants. He previously coached at Marumo Gallants in South Africa and had stints in North and Central Africa, including AS Vita Club in the DRC. Known for his disciplined and tactical approach, Ouaddou is expected to usher in a new era for the Sea Robbers.
Joining him in the dugout will be a strong technical team made up of:
- Mandla Ncikazi (Assistant Coach)
- Rayaan Jacobs (Analyst)
- Helmi Gueldich (Performance Coach)
- Tyron Damons (Goalkeeper Coach)
The club’s pre-season preparations are set to begin on June 27, with a two-week international training camp scheduled for Marbella, Spain, from July 8 to 20. During that period, the team will face top European opposition including Bolton Wanderers, PAFOS FC, UD Las Palmas, and Granada CF.
Fans will be eager to see how the new coach instills his philosophy and prepares the squad for both domestic and continental competitions in what promises to be a crucial campaign.
