The commanding centre-back, who joined Amakhosi from TS Galaxy ahead of the 2023/24 season, reflected on his time in the famous gold and black jersey, thanking the club, his teammates, and the millions of supporters who stood behind him.
Msimango shared an emotional farewell message to the Kaizer Chiefs faithful:
“Thank you, Kaizer Chiefs, for giving me memories that will last a lifetime. It was an honour to wear this badge and be part of this great club. I leave with gratitude in my heart and wish the club nothing but success. 💛🖤”
His departure marks the conclusion of a journey filled with moments of leadership, resilience, and commitment as he prepares for a fresh challenge in the Western Cape.
From Naturena to the Winelands
Msimango’s exit forms part of a high-profile player exchange agreement between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC, with exciting winger Langelihle Phili moving in the opposite direction to join the Soweto giants.
While the move signals the beginning of a new era for both players, Msimango leaves Kaizer Chiefs with a strong reputation for professionalism and dedication. During his stay, the defender made 53 competitive appearances across all competitions, becoming an important figure in the Amakhosi squad.
Despite facing injury setbacks and periods of fierce competition for places, the centre-back remained committed to the team’s cause, consistently displaying leadership qualities both on and off the pitch.
Rising Through the Ranks
Born in Brakpan, Gauteng, Spiwe Given Msimango built his reputation through hard work, discipline, and consistency.
The tall and commanding defender first gained national recognition during his time with Highlands Park before seamlessly transitioning into the TS Galaxy setup following the club’s acquisition of Highlands Park’s top-flight status.
At TS Galaxy, Msimango developed into one of the most dependable defenders in the league, eventually earning the captain’s armband and becoming a respected leader within the squad.
His remarkable 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign highlighted his durability and consistency, as he featured in every minute of all 30 league matches — a testament to his fitness, discipline, and importance to the team.
That outstanding season attracted interest from some of South Africa’s biggest clubs and ultimately paved the way for his dream move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Making His Mark at Kaizer Chiefs

Standing at 1.89m, the centre-back brought physical presence, aerial ability, composure, and leadership to the backline. Over three seasons, he established himself as a dependable option and earned recognition for his commitment to the club.
His time with Kaizer Chiefs also included involvement with Bafana Bafana, further highlighting his growth and impact in South African football.
Although injuries interrupted parts of his journey, Msimango continued to show professionalism and determination, fighting his way back whenever challenges arose.
A New Beginning with Stellenbosch FC
