South African star Cassius Mailula has officially confirmed his departure from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, bringing an end to an impressive loan stint that saw him become a key figure in the club’s attack.
In an emotional statement released earlier today, Mailula thanked the Wydad family for their support, saying his time in Casablanca had been “special and rewarding.”
“It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, as I want to let you all know that I will not be continuing with the team for the upcoming season,” wrote the 23-year-old.
“From the security staff to the technical team, to my teammates—your kindness and support has meant the world to me.”
Mailula joined Wydad on loan from Toronto FC in 2024 and made an instant impact with his flair, pace, and work ethic. During his time at the club, he made over 30 appearances, netting 5 goals and registering 7 assists, including a standout strike at the FIFA Club World Cup.
He was also full of praise for Wydad president Said Naciri and head coach Rulani Mokwena, who guided the team through a competitive campaign both domestically and internationally.
“I must also thank the President for giving me the incredible opportunity to represent Wydad, and Coach Rulani for his unwavering belief in me. Without his trust, I wouldn’t be the player I am today.”
His message ended with a heartfelt wish for the club’s future and a shout of solidarity with the fans:
“Dima Wydad.”
