Sekhukhune United have confirmed the departure of Ivorian goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangaré following the conclusion of his contract on 30 June 2025. The club announced the decision on Tuesday, bringing an end to a two-year spell that saw the veteran shot-stopper serve as a key figure in the Babina Noko dressing room.
Sangaré, who arrived at the club in July 2022, leaves after making over 40 appearances across all competitions for the Limpopo-based outfit. In the 2024/25 season alone, he featured in 23 matches, keeping 9 clean sheets and conceding 25 goals. While his early-season form was consistent, he later found himself playing a backup role under coach Eric Tinkler as Renaldo Leaner took over as the preferred option between the posts.
Sekhukhune released a heartfelt statement, thanking Sangaré for his leadership and contributions:
“Your safe hands, big saves, and fearless heart made us proud every time you stepped on the pitch. “
The 37-year-old was also part of the historic Ivory Coast squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023, a moment that elevated his stature on the continent—even if he didn’t play during the tournament.
Despite speculation that the club might activate a one-year extension clause in his contract, both parties opted for a mutual parting of ways.
Sangaré’s next move remains unknown, but with his vast experience and recent continental success, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him land another deal in the Premier Soccer League or elsewhere on the African continent.
Sekhukhune United will now look to rebuild their goalkeeping department ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, with more changes expected in the coming weeks.
