Atlético Madrid Eliminated from 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Despite Final Win

Club World Cup

Atlético Madrid has been eliminated from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a narrow 1-0 win against Botafogo in their last group match. Although Antoine Griezmann scored late in the game, the victory was not enough for Atlético to advance.

The Spanish club needed to win by at least two goals to progress but fell short due to goal difference. Paris Saint-Germain secured their place in the knockout stage by defeating the Seattle Sounders 2-0 in a concurrent match.

All three teams in the group finished with six points each, but Atlético’s earlier 4-0 loss to PSG was decisive in their elimination. This marks the first time a major European club has exited the Club World Cup during the group stage.

Atlético’s coach, Diego Simeone, acknowledged the team’s performance, reflecting on the tough competition they faced. The club will now focus on upcoming domestic competitions as the tournament continues.
