JOHANNESBURG – The spirit of 2010 has been reborn. Today, the South African Football Association (SAFA) and global sports giant Adidas officially launched the new 2026/2027 home kits for Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana. The unveiling marks a landmark “homecoming” for the Three Stripes, replacing Le Coq Sportif just as the nation prepares for its biggest footballing summer in sixteen years.
The new design is a masterclass in nostalgia, drawing direct inspiration from the iconic jersey worn during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. While it retains the unmistakable vibrant yellow base and deep green trim that define South African football, the 2026 iteration introduces a powerful cultural evolution.
Twelve Languages, One Nation
A standout feature of the new kit is the intricate graphic pattern woven into the fabric. In 2010, the collar featured 11 lines representing the official languages of the time. The 2026 edition has been thoughtfully updated to include subtle visual elements celebrating South Africa’s 12 official languages, including the recent elevation of South African Sign Language.
“This jersey is more than match-day apparel; it is a unifying symbol,” said SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao during the launch. “It underscores our commitment to the equal elevation of both the men’s and women’s games as they take to the global stage.”
The message is clear: one nation, many voices, united under one badge.
High-Performance Engineering
Beyond the aesthetics, the “Authentic” version of the kit features Adidas’ most advanced performance technology to date. To combat the intense summer heat expected at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, the jerseys utilize CLIMACOOL+ technology. This system incorporates 3D body mapping and engineered stretch fabrics to maximize airflow in high-heat zones, ensuring optimal performance on the biggest stage.
Fans will also notice a premium touch in the finer details: a new “lenticular” federation crest. This heat-applied badge features a subtle color-shifting effect, adding a futuristic edge to the classic Protea and SAFA emblems.
The Road Ahead
The timing of the launch is meticulous. In exactly 100 days, Bafana Bafana are set to walk out onto the pitch in Mexico City to play their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, a full-circle moment for South African football.
However, fans won’t have to wait that long to see the kit in action.
Banyana Banyana will be the first to debut the new look later this month at the opening of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Shortly after, Bafana Bafana will don the new colours during their international friendlies against Panama on March 27 and 31.
Availability and What’s Next
While the home kit stole the spotlight, the collection is not yet complete. SAFA has confirmed that the Away Kit rumored to be a striking dark green will be revealed globally on March 19.
For supporters eager to own a piece of history, the wait is almost over. The full 2026/2027 home collection, including fan replicas and training wear, will hit Adidas concept stores and online retailers across South Africa on March 20, 2026.
A new chapter begins and once again, the Rainbow Nation is ready to shine on the world stage.
