Dr. Danny Jordaan has secured another term as president of the South African Football Association (SAFA) after defeating AmaZulu FC chairman and businessman Sandile Zungu at the association’s Elective Congress.
The incumbent president emerged victorious in a closely watched leadership contest, securing a commanding majority of the delegates’ votes and extending his tenure at the helm of South African football.
Jordaan Secures Comfortable Majority
Following the conclusion of the voting process, Jordaan received 157 votes, while Zungu finished with 82 votes.
The result represents a decisive victory for the incumbent and underlines the continued support he enjoys within SAFA’s regional and administrative structures.
Zungu entered the race with a campaign centred on strengthening private-sector partnerships, increasing investment in grassroots football and improving corporate governance across the association. However, his challenge ultimately fell short as delegates backed Jordaan for another term.
Focus Now Turns to South African Football
With the leadership contest now concluded, attention will shift towards the challenges facing SAFA and the development of football across the country.
Among the key priorities for the new administration will be strengthening grassroots football, improving development structures, supporting South Africa’s national teams and attracting sustainable commercial partnerships.
The financial stability and development of SAFA’s regional structures will also remain important, particularly as the association seeks to create stronger pathways for young players and expand opportunities throughout the country.
Pressure to Deliver
While Jordaan’s victory provides continuity at the top of SAFA, the result also brings renewed expectations from football stakeholders.
The coming term will be closely scrutinised as SAFA faces calls for greater transparency, stronger corporate partnerships and continued investment in football development.
For now, Jordaan has secured the mandate to lead South African football into another chapter. The focus will now move from the election campaign to whether his administration can translate that mandate into meaningful progress on and off the pitch.
