The Premier Soccer League celebrated its finest performers of the 2024/25 season with a virtual awards ceremony broadcast on SuperSport and SABC Sport. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates were the night’s biggest winners, with their players and staff scooping the majority of top honours.
Lucas Ribeiro Costa was the undisputed star of the evening, claiming three major individual accolades: Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, and Goal of the Season, all in recognition of his outstanding performances in a dominant campaign for Sundowns.
In the technical area, Miguel Cardoso was named Coach of the Season, having guided Mamelodi Sundowns to silverware and consistent form throughout a demanding season.
Orlando Pirates’ youthful talent also shone brightly, with Relebohile Mofokeng taking home both the Young Player of the Season and MTN8 Last Man Standing awards. Veteran midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula and defensive stalwart Nkosinathi Sibisi added more glory to the Buccaneers’ night by winning the Midfielder and Defender of the Season awards respectively.
In goal, Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates was recognized as the league’s top shot-stopper, beating out stiff competition in the Goalkeeper of the Season category.
Other competitions were also acknowledged, with Elvis Chipezeze of Magesi FC honored as the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament, and Pule Mmodi (Kaizer Chiefs) named Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament. His teammate Mbekezeli Mbokazi walked away with the Most Promising Player title in the same tournament.
In the lower divisions, Muzomuhle Khanyi (Hungry Lions) emerged as both the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player and Top Goal Scorer, while Teboho Lekhatla (Casric Stars) was recognised as the Young Player of the Season in the same league. Dumsani Msibi (Durban City) claimed the Goalkeeper of the Season honour.
Tylon Smith of Stellenbosch FC was awarded the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season, while Siphamandla Msezane (Orlando Pirates) won the Top Scorer award for that division.
In officiating, Masixole Bambiso was named Referee of the Season, and Kgara Mokoena took home the award for Assistant Referee of the Season.
Finally, the prestigious PSL Chairman’s Award was presented to Mamelodi Sundowns, recognizing their continued excellence both on and off the field.
