Mochudi Centre Chiefs have confirmed the appointment of South African football legend Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane as the club’s new head coach.
The appointment represents a major move for Magosi, who will be hoping the former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder can bring a new energy to the team and help them push back towards the top of the Botswana Premier League.
Yeye Takes Over the Hot Seat
Letsholonyane takes over following the departure of Spanish coach Miguel Corral Torreira, with the former midfield maestro now facing the challenge of guiding one of Botswana’s biggest clubs.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who have won the Botswana Premier League four times, will be expecting Letsholonyane to use his experience at the highest level to build a competitive side capable of challenging for major honours.
Before making the move to Centre Chiefs, Letsholonyane was working in Zimbabwe as an assistant coach to fellow South African Thabo Senong at FC Platinum.
Following his departure, FC Platinum moved to fill the vacancy by bringing in former Zimbabwe international Onismor Bhasera as part of their technical team.
A Return to Familiar Territory
The new Centre Chiefs boss is no stranger to the Botswana Premier League.
Letsholonyane previously impressed during his time with Matebele FC, where he played an important role in helping the club move away from the relegation battle.
His work during that spell earned him recognition and a nomination for the league’s Coach of the Season award.
Now, he returns to Botswana with an even bigger challenge on his hands.
Can Yeye Turn Things Around?
Mochudi Centre Chiefs currently occupy seventh position, having collected four points from their opening three league matches.
With the season still in its early stages, Letsholonyane will have time to put his ideas into practice, but expectations will be high as he begins his new chapter on the Centre Chiefs bench.
His playing career at the highest level, combined with his growing coaching experience, will now be put to the test as he looks to build a team capable of competing with Botswana’s leading sides.
For Magosi supporters, the arrival of a familiar name from South African football brings renewed hope.
Can Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane lead Mochudi Centre Chiefs back to the top of Botswana football?
