Bafana Bafana

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has finalized his technical team ahead of the upcoming international window, confirming the appointment of experienced coach Marcus Mashilo as the national team’s new goalkeeper coach.

Mashilo joins the national setup as the replacement for Grant Johnson, bringing extensive domestic and continental experience to the Bafana Bafana technical team as preparations get underway in Johannesburg.

A Familiar Face Reunites with Mosimane

Mashilo has built an impressive coaching pedigree over the years, including more than a decade working within the structures of Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as spells with Lamontville Golden Arrows and Marumo Gallants.

The CAF A-licensed coach has also previously worked alongside Mosimane at Sundowns, giving him a strong understanding of the head coach’s methods and expectations at international level.

During his coaching career, Mashilo has worked with several high-profile goalkeepers, including Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene, during their time at Sundowns.

Mosimane expressed his confidence in Mashilo’s experience and contribution to the game.

“Marcus is experienced and worked with me at Sundowns. He has trained Kennedy and Denis and all the big players at Sundowns,” Mosimane said.

“He has achieved a lot and contributed to a lot of trophies that have been won.”

Mashilo’s appointment completes the latest additions to Mosimane’s technical setup as Bafana Bafana prepare for a demanding international period.

He will work alongside assistant coach Morena Ramoreboli, conditioning coach Kabelo Rangoaga, head performance analyst Musi Matlaba, and assistant performance analyst Tshepo Leuta Mahao.

The coaching staff will now turn their attention to preparing the squad for a busy schedule that includes two crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and an international friendly against Egypt.

The announcement comes as the Bafana Bafana camp gets underway in Johannesburg.

Mosimane confirmed that the locally based players had reported to camp without any issues, while the remaining overseas-based members of the squad are expected to arrive this evening following their weekend club commitments.

The team will then begin preparations for three fixtures across the upcoming international window.
