ORLANDO PIRATES delivered a commanding performance at the Orlando Amstel Arena, dismantling Sekhukhune United 3-0 to complete a convincing 4-0 aggregate victory and book their place in yet another MTN8 final.
Holding a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg thanks to Deon Hotto’s strike, the Buccaneers returned to Soweto determined to finish the job. Under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, Pirates took control of the tie and effectively put the contest beyond Sekhukhune’s reach before halftime.
First-Half Blitz Puts Pirates in Command
Sekhukhune United arrived in Soweto knowing they needed to overturn the first-leg deficit, but containing a relentless Pirates attack proved to be a bridge too far.
The Buccaneers weathered the early pressure before turning up the intensity as the first half progressed.
Just moments before the interval, Thapelo Mokobodi broke the deadlock, capitalising on a defensive mistake to send the home supporters into celebration.
Pirates struck again almost immediately, with Ghampani Lungu producing a sharp first-time finish to double the advantage on the night and extend the aggregate score to 3-0 heading into the break.
At that stage, Sekhukhune faced an uphill battle to keep their MTN8 hopes alive.
Pirates Take Complete Control
With a three-goal aggregate cushion, Orlando Pirates returned for the second half with confidence and composure.
Rather than allowing Sekhukhune back into the contest, the Buccaneers continued to dictate the tempo, closing down passing lanes, winning the midfield battle and limiting Babina Noko’s opportunities to launch dangerous attacks.
Pirates eventually found a third goal on the night, putting the result beyond doubt and completing a 4-0 aggregate triumph.
It was a performance that once again highlighted the Buccaneers’ strength and experience when it comes to knockout football.
Another MTN8 Final Awaits
The victory sends Orlando Pirates through to another MTN8 final and keeps their pursuit of more domestic silverware firmly on track.
For Sekhukhune United, the heavy aggregate defeat brings their MTN8 campaign to a disappointing conclusion. Babina Noko will now have to regroup quickly and shift their focus towards their domestic league commitments.
