The Betway Premiership takes centre stage this afternoon as Chippa United welcome league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to the Buffalo City Stadium.
Kick-off is scheduled for 17:30 SAST, with the Chilli Boys facing a formidable challenge against a Sundowns side that has made an impressive start to the 2026/27 domestic campaign.
A New Venue, Same High Stakes
The fixture was originally scheduled to take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, but the match was subsequently moved to the Buffalo City Stadium following pitch inspection requirements by the Premier Soccer League.
The change of venue has done little to reduce the anticipation, with both sides heading into the encounter with plenty at stake.
Sundowns Setting the Pace
Mamelodi Sundowns have wasted little time establishing themselves among the early pace-setters this season.
The Brazilians sit at the summit of the Betway Premiership standings and arrive in East London on the back of a convincing 3-0 victory earlier in the week.
With their attacking quality, squad depth and early-season momentum, Sundowns will enter the contest as favourites. However, they will know that maintaining their standards away from home will be crucial if they are to continue their strong start.
Chippa Searching for a Breakthrough
For Chippa United, the afternoon presents an opportunity to turn their fortunes around.
Brandon Truter’s side currently occupy 12th position and are still searching for their first victory of the campaign. Facing the league leaders will be a difficult assignment, but home advantage could provide the Chilli Boys with the boost they need.
Chippa will need to remain organised, disciplined and clinical when opportunities arise if they are to cause an upset.
Players to Watch
Iqraam Rayners — Mamelodi Sundowns
Iqraam Rayners remains one of Sundowns’ biggest attacking threats. His intelligent movement, sharp positioning and ability to finish chances make him a constant danger in and around the penalty area.
Stanley Nwabali — Chippa United
Between the posts, Stanley Nwabali could have a major role to play for the hosts. The Nigerian international goalkeeper may be called upon repeatedly as Chippa look to withstand Sundowns’ attacking pressure.
Can Chippa Shock the Leaders?
Sundowns will be determined to maintain their position at the top of the table, while Chippa United will be desperate to finally get their season up and running.
Kick-off: 17:30 SAST
Venue: Buffalo City Stadium, East London

Will the Brazilians continue their impressive winning momentum, or can the Chilli Boys produce a memorable result in front of their home supporters?
