Kaizer Chiefs, in partnership with Nedbank, The Sports Trust, the Premier Soccer League (PSL), and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, have officially handed over a modern multipurpose sports court to Phulong Secondary School. This initiative is part of the Nedbank Cup community upliftment programme, with Phulong Secondary School chosen as the beneficiary following Kaizer Chiefs’ 2025 Nedbank Cup victory.
The new facility is designed to accommodate five sports: soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. It is the first of its kind in Kwa-Thema and is expected to benefit the school’s 1,503 learners, as well as students from neighboring schools and members of the local community.
The handover ceremony was attended by Kaizer Chiefs’ Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr., Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung, and first-team players Lebo Maboe, Wandile Duba, Given Msimango, Rushwin Dortley, and Aden McCarthy. Government officials present included Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr. Reginah Mhaule, Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Peace Mabe, and Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Matome Chiloane, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting youth development and community engagement.
This project marks the 10th facility delivered through the Nedbank Cup community upliftment programme, showcasing a decade-long commitment to investing in communities and fostering the next generation of athletes. The multipurpose court features an eco-friendly design and is expected to have a 20-year lifespan, providing a safe and sustainable space for sports and recreation in Kwa-Thema.
The initiative highlights Kaizer Chiefs’ dedication to giving back to the community and supporting sports development across South Africa.
