Flamengo Qualify for Club World Cup Round of 16 After Perfect Group Stage Start

Club World Cup

Flamengo have officially secured their place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after an impressive start in Group D, winning both of their opening fixtures.

The Brazilian giants began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Espérance de Tunis, before following it up with a 3-1 triumph against Chelsea — a performance that saw goals from Bruno Henrique, Danilo, and Wallace Yan dismantle the English club. Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson was also sent off in the second half, giving Flamengo a decisive edge in the contest.

Their qualification was confirmed on Friday night, when Espérance defeated LAFC 1-0 in the second round of group fixtures. That result meant Flamengo’s tally of 6 points is enough to guarantee a top-two finish in the group, sealing their spot in the Round of 16 regardless of the outcome of their final match.

Flamengo will next face LAFC in their final group match but can do so with confidence knowing their spot in the knockout round is already secured.

The Round of 16 kicks off on June 24, and Flamengo will be among the favorites moving forward, having displayed both attacking firepower and tactical control in their opening matches.
