FC Barcelona Officially Signs Goalkeeper Joan García on Six-Year Deal
FC Barcelona has confirmed the signing of 24-year-old goalkeeper Joan García from city rivals RCD Espanyol. The deal, which includes a €25 million release clause, sees García join the club on a six-year contract running until June 2031.
García, who has been with Espanyol since the age of 15, had an impressive 2024–25 season, recording the most saves in LaLiga with 146 and playing every minute of the campaign. His performances were instrumental in Espanyol’s 14th-place finish, helping the team narrowly avoid relegation.
Upon finalizing the transfer, García bid an emotional farewell to Espanyol fans through a heartfelt message on social media, expressing gratitude for the experiences and memories gained during his time at the club.
Barcelona’s acquisition of García aims to bolster their goalkeeping options, providing competition and support for current first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. The club is expected to finalize the registration of García pending compliance with LaLiga’s financial regulations.
