Clinical Duba Double Fires Kaizer Chiefs to Winning Start Against Kruger United

Betway Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs have opened their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign in style, overcoming newly promoted Kruger United with a convincing 3–1 victory at a vibrant Mbombela Stadium.

The result gives Amakhosi the perfect start to their league journey, with summer signing Flávio Silva opening the scoring before substitute Wandile Duba produced a match-winning performance off the bench, scoring twice to secure all three points.

Fast Start as Chiefs Draw First Blood

From the opening whistle, Kaizer Chiefs showed their intent, taking control of possession and looking dangerous in the final third.

Their early pressure was rewarded in the 7th minute when Mfundo Vilakazi delivered a perfectly weighted cutback into the penalty area. Flávio Silva displayed excellent composure, calmly guiding the ball into the bottom corner to give Amakhosi an early advantage.

Chiefs continued to dominate large periods of the first half, controlling the tempo and forcing Kruger United to defend deep. However, the hosts refused to surrender and grew stronger as the match progressed.

Ndlovu Stunner Brings Kruger United Level

Just when it looked like Chiefs would head into the break with the lead, Kruger United produced a moment of brilliance.

Deep into first-half stoppage time (45+1’), Khethukuthula Ndlovu capitalised on a loose ball on the right side. The forward showed tremendous skill and confidence, cutting inside before unleashing a spectacular curling strike that beat goalkeeper Brandon Petersen to make it 1–1 at halftime.

The goal gave the newcomers renewed belief and set up an intriguing second half.

Duba Changes the Game

With the match finely balanced after the restart, Kaizer Chiefs turned to their bench for inspiration — and Wandile Duba delivered exactly that.

The young attacker made an immediate impact after being introduced, injecting pace and energy into the Amakhosi attack.

Duba’s Match-Winning Moments

56’ — Chiefs regain the lead
Duba reacted quickest inside the box after a goalmouth scramble, showing great awareness to fire home and restore Chiefs’ advantage.

65’ — Duba seals the victory
Only nine minutes later, the forward struck again. Showing composure beyond his years, Duba found space inside the area and fired a low left-footed effort past the goalkeeper to complete his brace and put the game beyond Kruger United.

Perfect Opening Statement from Amakhosi

The final whistle confirmed a valuable away victory for Kaizer Chiefs, who leave Mbombela with maximum points and plenty of confidence heading into the new season.

While Kruger United showed courage and quality in their top-flight debut, Amakhosi’s experience and attacking quality proved decisive on the night.

For Chiefs, it was a dream start — and for Wandile Duba, it was a statement performance that could prove crucial as the club begins its pursuit of domestic success.
