Kaizer Chiefs opened their Dutch pre-season tour with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem on Tuesday evening at Sportpark Driel.
Amakhosi took the lead in the 37th minute when Reeve Frosler finished off a well-worked move, rewarding a confident first-half display from the visitors.
However, the second half started in the worst possible way for Chiefs. Just two minutes after the break, Dillan Solomons unfortunately turned a cross into his own net in the 47th minute, bringing Vitesse level.
The Dutch side completed their comeback in the 74th minute when Andy Visser capitalised on a long throw-in to beat the Chiefs defence and seal the win for the hosts.
Despite the defeat, the friendly offered head coach Nasreddine Nabi an opportunity to assess his squad, blending new signings with rising young talent. Chiefs showed promise in their structure and ball movement, particularly in the opening half.
Amakhosi now shift their focus to the remaining matches on their pre-season tour of the Netherlands, with fixtures against FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen, PEC Zwolle, and FC Twente still to come.
