POLOKWANE – A chilly evening at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium turned into a showcase of precision and confidence as Kaizer Chiefs produced a commanding 4-1 victory over Magesi FC in a performance that underlined their growing momentum in the Betway Premiership.
Coming into the fixture as favourites, Amakhosi not only lived up to expectations but did so with authority, blending youthful energy with experienced control to overwhelm a struggling Magesi side.
First Half: Chiefs Take Control
The opening exchanges were tightly contested, with Magesi showing early intent. Thabang Sibanyoni came close to opening the scoring, his header narrowly missing the target and offering a glimpse of belief for the home crowd.
However, the breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute through Flávio da Silva. The forward continued his impressive debut campaign, reacting sharply inside the box to fire home his seventh league goal and give Chiefs the lead.
Just four minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage in dramatic fashion. A defensive lapse from Magesi during a set-piece saw goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze caught off guard, allowing Wandile Duba to capitalise and finish from a tight angle.
Second Half: Tactical Brilliance and Clinical Finishing
Magesi emerged after the break with renewed intent, but the game shifted decisively following a key substitution. The introduction of Reeve Frosler added a new dimension to Chiefs’ attack.
In the 61st minute, Frosler delivered a pinpoint cross that found Mduduzi Shabalala, who controlled superbly before finishing with composure to extend the lead.
The hosts responded in the 68th minute, as Diteboho Mofokeng headed home to reduce the deficit and briefly lift spirits inside the stadium. But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived.
Chiefs put the game beyond doubt in the 82nd minute, with Frosler again the architect. His delivery into the box was met by Khanyisa Mayo, who rose above the defence to power in a header and complete the rout.
The Bigger Picture: Momentum Building
The result marks a significant step forward for Kaizer Chiefs, who have now recorded five consecutive league victories. Their resurgence sees them firmly positioned in third place with 45 points, strengthening their push for a return to continental competition.
